Pixel and Owen Maxwell are coming along...

Detail of Pixel (left - "good" - side)

Here's Pixel! Looking good, love how it is coming. The little cartoony illustrations were definitely (unconsciously at first) inspired by one of my favorite all-time illustrators Barry Blitt (then, I looked at them and thought, "BARRY BLITT"! HOW did you slink your way into MY ARTWORK?" Like it's *his* fault. ;)). If you don't think you know his work, check out this book here and do the Amazon "look inside" even though it's in Dutch or German (I think). He also did arguably one of the most famous "New Yorker" covers ever. He is really talented and has been inspiring to me throughout my life - I *always* would go straight to his cartoon illos in whatever mag I was reading that reglarly featured him. And there has been about 200, so naming names here, well, I'm not going to bother wracking my brain right now ("Vanity Fair? Entertainment Weekly?")...It's late.

Check out the other ("dark" ) side of the portrait, and see the whole thing as well, on my What's Cookin' page (underOwen Maxwell).

Here's Owen Maxwell at the Beach, ink stage. The "big surprise" I've been keeping from all of you is that I did this one in brown ink as opposed to black (ta-da!) Not really noticeable here, but I think it will be more noticeable after it is painted. I really love how this is coming - - in fact it really feels very, very beachy to me. In fact it feels very east-coast beachy to me. Probably because OM's mom suppied plenty of great reference photos. But anyway I am pleased with the progress! :) It's definitely helping to inspire me to do more beach-themed art, which I have been planning to do anyway, so all the more looking forward to starting on that.
