Woe Is Knee...

a crunchy bit

I have chrondomalacia patella, which is really just your average, run of the mill, under the knee joint cartilage deterioration - very common. I have episodes of knee pain pretty frequently, but it's nothing out of the ordinary - it comes and it goes, usually does not get too bad, and I've dealt with it for years. Nothing new.

Last Wednesday I noticed a flare-up starting after a longish walk. The flare got worse and worse until last night, when I awoke in such terrible pain. I was certain that this was no regular episode. The pain seemed to be worsening. Instead of attempting to see my primary care doctor today, I went straight to the hospital.

Turns out I have a floating bit of bony mass in my knee joint (see pic -- it's the very faint white blog in between the ball joint and the bone, NOT the floaty clearly visible one outside of the joint.). Ick! Now, I'm wearing a big, funny brace to keep my knee joint immobilized. It's sure helping with the pain, despite the fact that I look a little elephanty wearing it! I will be seeing an orthopedic surgeon on Tuesday! Please wish me luck!
