Do these cats just emanate the aura of burning ambition, or what? This IF subject is actually a pretty good segway for me into a blog-share: I am getting ready for my very first trade show exhibition! Yes that is right folks I am exhibiting at Americasmart in Atlanta in a short time from now. That means I have to MOTOR with no distractions! I have so many great ideas and I need to EXECUTE big time in the next few weeks. Plus,I'm planning just about everything having to do with a trade show booth, and I have never done this before. Strangely, I am not NERVOUS. I am EXCITED. I think that says I am ready for this. I know I am!! But first I have to be PREPARED! So I will say good-bye for just a little while. You KNOW I'll be back here and there to share but I will be taking a little blog-break for awhile. I'll keep you in the loop on developments as the time draws closer! Ciao for now!

The Sky's The Limit
The "Looking Up" show opening night at Custom Art Framing & Gallery 9, took place last Friday night. My sister Julie (who owns the gallery) was there, my sister Nancy was there too (she also works at the shop) and my mom made it out, too, thanks to Nancy!) Matt (my hubby) was there, my brother in law Nick as well, and also many artist friends were there too. It was a family/friend affair and a lot of fun. A bunch of us also contributed to a "group" painting which was a lot of fun! I found myself wishing that we all had more time to work on it together.
For the show, which was open-call, contributors were each given a 10 x 10 pre-gessoed canvas to work on. Everypone got an identical canvas to visually describe the theme in whatever way they wished. Here is my entry into the show! And what is a really fun thing is that my painting sold the first night. How cool is that?! 10% of the profits from the sale of each painting are going to Norwood (MA) Food Pantry, which is great! So that was another great reason to do the show, aside from the other 101 reasons I already had, to do it! I also painted the sides with fun sentences. I truly enjoy using words in my art and it's fun to create opportunities to do it.
Oh... and if you are local to Norwood, MA - here is a BIG DEAL - Kim Morin Weineck is going to be teaching a painting class at CAF&G9 on Tuesday nights, 7-9 pm. It's open enrollment, and it's as flex or as structured as you want it to be. Kim is the Gallery Director at Gallery 9, and besides that, she is only one of my favorite artists!! Kim is a very experienced and accomplished painter. she works out of her own home studio (Breton Bleu) and she keeps a blog so you can read all about her. She has a great personality and temperament for teaching as well. If the Gallery was closer to me, and I had 2 free hours a week, I'd be there, easy. Classes are $30 each drop-in, or 4 classes for $100,
Oh and I almost forgot! I will be releasing a small collection of small paintings —four in all—for sale on Thursday, November 11 at 9pm in my Big Cartel shop. I'm very excited to share these paintings with you, and to offer them up for sale. It's unusual for me to sell original art these days, but it is REALLY unusual for me to sell original art that is so different from the art you usually see of mine (which I love to do and which I will continue doing full-force, by the way!) That speaks to how special I think these paintings are. I cannot pinpoint exactly why I decided to offer them up except for my gut feelings. Perhaps each painting already has a "human" out there who is ready to find them! So, for me, this is a personal event, and I hope you can celebrate that with me. You can read more about the painting collection here.

New original paintings - TATTOOS
I have recently created a small collection of brand new paintings. The style of the art is not what you typically see from me! Once in awhile I like to re-energize by working in a style which is not my day-to-day. These works are the final products of my latest creative excursion. The subject I tackle in the series is TATTOOS, and the people who have them. Tattoos have always been mysterious, fascinating, and endlessly interesting to me—the tattoos themselves, the reasons people get them, and what the marks personally mean to them. Then of course there’s the fact that tattoos are actually living, breathing art in the literal sense.
The four acrylic-on-wood paintings in this group, "Angel", Henry", "Bird" and "Siren" will be released for sale in my Big Cartel shop at 9 PM EST on Thursday, November 11th. I sure hope to see you there!

Illustration Friday: Afterwards
Illustration Friday: Afterwards, originally uploaded by kathy weller.
First things first: Miss Kitty NEEDS some new boots. Afterwards, she might stop at the Café for a spot of tea and a cookie... a little break to admire her new boots.

• Each painting is 4" x 4". They are intimate in size yet they are highly detailed and richly layered paintings.
• My paint of choice is Golden products and Liquitex Professional series. I find these brands to make the finest acrylic paints on the market. I am telling you, in my experience nothing kills a burst of creative inspiration like bad materials (been there!) so I ALWAYS buy the very best I can afford. And believe me it shows, in the work and also in my dedication to it. So yes, good materials are not only GOOD materials but they assist and enhance the experience as well as the joy in creating the art itself.
• I am not planning to create any further pieces in this series, and for the foreseeable future you will not see any more of this painting style from me. This was a "comet in the night" so to speak, just when I needed the light of a shooting comet to reinvigorate my creative spirit! While I love the results, this style of work is not a path I am actively pursuing right now.
• I won't be selling art prints of this series for the foreseeable future. In thirty years, who knows? But I have made the conscious decision to not sell prints of this series for a couple of very good reasons (which I will keep to myself). :)
So, if you are reading this far, thank you for your interest in my work! I hope you enjoy these paintings as much as I enjoyed the process of creating them. :) I appreciate YOU for your interest in following my creative journey.Thank you for that, and for being here!
