First day of my 30/30 project! This illustration of my Princess Pooches Cameo print is near and dear to my heart. As you may know, I did custom pet
portraits for five years (2005-10). I loved it. It was a time of great growth and learning
for me. It was intense, and it helped me to figure out a lot about who I was as a person and as an
artist and as a creative entrepreneur, and what subjects made me happy to draw, what I could accomplish with my
art on many levels, and moving forward what I really wanted to accomplish long-term with all of that.
I have always been very enthusiastic and, well, maybe even kind of kind of kooky-obsessed for creating little cute, fun characters. As you can see, doing the pet portraits professionally helped to figure out what the true focus of my art subject passions were, and to further distill it. I not only love pets and cute characters, but creating fun pet- and character-based art is truly one of my greatest joys in life and in art.
Hey, you gotta do what YOU love... life's just too short! but what IS it? Only YOU can answer that. Sometimes, it takes awhile to figure it out—oftentimes it takes a GREAT while...but you have to do the search. The journey is just as important as the destination.
Here are some of the process sketches... you can click on each of these images for a larger look. (See the final with detail on Etsy.)
